Description

Incrate is a mind-warping 2D/3D puzzle game contained within a crate! You've been mysteriously trapped in a bizarre box-shaped prison. Rotating the prison will twist your notions of perspective. Bend reality to your whim and manipulate your world and the things in it to solve the puzzles and escape!

History

After playing puzzle games like Baba Is You and Patrick's Parabox with one of his best friends. Michael sought to think of his own mind-warping puzzle game as well.

Originally, he thought back to an idea he had over 16 years ago, for a 2D gravity based platformer, and if that could work as a Sokoban-style game. Upon heading to bed, he thought about what if it was in 3D? Poof, the initial vision for Incrate was born as a perspective-based puzzle game taking place inside a crate. Thinking of the name Incrate for this game, led to the theme of the main character being an inmate trapped in the crate.

Michael went to work creating the initial prototype with Godot and his own custom codebase for handling the world's different perspectives. He knew once it started to take shape that there was something here. Especially, once lasers were added and a simple puzzle containing a crate and a laser could stand on their own as an initial gateway puzzle.

While not the first game to use these types of mechanics, like Crush and Echochrome, it compacts them down into Rubix-cube-esque puzzles ala Captain Toad.
